About Carthage

Carthage is a city in Jasper County, Missouri, located south of the Spring River along Interstate 49. Historically famous as the site of the Civil War's Battle of Carthage in 1861, the community of approximately 15,574 was also noted for its density of limestone quarries, now operated as the climate-controlled Carthage Underground storage facility. The town hosts the annual Maple Leaf Festival and the Precious Moments Park, and is served by the Carthage R-9 School District.
