Cascadia, OR

Cascadia is a Linn County census-designated place on the South Santiam River, about fourteen miles east of Sweet Home along U.S. 20. The settlement began as a stage stop on the Santiam Wagon Road, then became a resort known for Cascadia Mineral Springs. A post office opened in 1898, and the river, highway, and forested slopes still organize the community. Cascadia County Park sits at the confluence of Soda Creek and the South Santiam, with traces of the old wagon road and a trail to Soda Creek Falls.

Long before the resort era, the Santiam people used the South Santiam River and nearby springs as part of their traditional landscape. Cascadia State Park, now under Linn County management as Cascadia County Park, preserves a riverside setting of Douglas fir, meadow, and river access. Cascadia Cave is a shallow rock shelter on private land near the river and the park. The community's location makes it feel like a gateway between the Willamette Valley and the Cascade crossing: one highway, one river, and a long line of travelers moving east and west.
