Cass City, MI

Cass City sits in the southern Thumb, where the Cass River and the village share a name borrowed from General Lewis Cass, Michigan’s territorial governor. A sawmill was established here in 1851, farming settlers arrived in the following years, and the village incorporated in 1883. That gives Cass City a straightforward local arc: river, timber, farms, then the institutions of a Tuscola County village. Rawson Memorial Library is a local reference point and hosts digitized Cass City newspapers reaching back into the 1800s. Baker College has a campus here, while Cass City Public Schools and the village park system fill out the present-day map.
