About Castalia

Castalia is an Erie County village built around cold springs, blue holes, and the channels that early settlers cut to run grist mills. A Wyandot settlement stood here before the village took shape, and the area’s spring water later fed a trout-fishing tradition. The Castalia State Fish Hatchery now raises steelhead and rainbow trout using water from the local aquifers and Cold Creek. Castalia is western Ohio with an unusual underground story: water comes up cold, a famous blue hole put the place on the map, and fish still follow it.
