Castlewood, SD

Castlewood sits along the Big Sioux River in northeastern South Dakota, just a short drive south of Watertown. Home to roughly 700 people, it offers a welcoming, quiet setting where neighbors know each other and everyday life revolves around the local K-12 school. For a town of its size, Castlewood has plenty of practical amenities right at home, including a medical clinic, public library, and the Wellness Depot fitness center. Memorial Park is a favorite gathering spot with sports fields, playgrounds, and camping, while the local nine-hole golf course gives residents an easy way to unwind outdoors.

Surrounded by productive farmland, the town takes pride in its heritage, which is showcased downtown at the Castlewood Community Museum. Water lovers get a huge bonus with Lake Poinsett only nine miles to the south, making boating, fishing, and lakeside cabin weekends part of regular life. Every August, the whole town turns out for Castlewood Days, filling Main Street with parades, picnics, and family events that bring everyone together.
