Catahoula, LA

Catahoula is a census-designated place in St. Martin Parish, south of Henderson and outside the western boundary of the Atchafalaya River Basin. The 2020 census counted 988 residents. Its location puts the community on the edge of one of south Louisiana's defining landscapes: the Atchafalaya, Bayou Teche, backwater channels, and leveed roads all shape how people think about distance here. Catahoula is part of a parish where land and water are constantly negotiated, even when the place itself sits just beyond the basin.
