Cecilton, MD

Cecilton is a southern Cecil County town built around a crossroads between the Bohemia and Sassafras rivers. Its roots reach back to Augustine Herman and Bohemia Manor, while the present town was incorporated in 1864. The Chesapeake and Delaware Canal lies to the north, and Cecilton became the main gathering point for lower-county services: an elementary school, recreation fields, athletic facilities, and the area’s public library all sit within its orbit. West Main Street keeps the practical center, with Town Hall, the post office, a bank, small shops, and a restaurant. Farmland still surrounds the town, and seasonal visitors arrive by way of the nearby rivers and Chesapeake country. Cecilton feels like a place organized around a main street and a wide rural hinterland.
