Cedar Glen Lakes is a 55-plus cooperative community in Manchester Township's Whiting section, tucked into the New Jersey Pine Barrens. It began in 1970 and became self-governed in 1979, and the difference between it and a standard subdivision is obvious once you turn through the entrance: 1,236 single and duplex homes, 222 acres, eleven miles of paved roads, and three lakes built around an active-adult routine. The community is a planned village with its own internal geography, not a traditional municipality.

Lakes support fishing, the roads support walking and biking, and the community's library, resale office, common maintenance, bus service, and SOS program handle the practical side of aging in place.
