Center Point, AR

Center Point earned its straightforward name when the local post office opened in 1849, right in the geographic heart of Howard County. Today, it is a tiny, peaceful rural community of under 200 residents set against the rolling countryside of southwestern Arkansas. Though quiet now, it was once a bustling crossroads that served as the county seat from 1873 until the turn of the century.

In its nineteenth-century heyday, the town was home to general stores, churches, a Masonic lodge, and a busy trade market. Life shifted in 1905 when the railroad bypassed Center Point for nearby Nashville, leading voters to move the county government there as well. Today, Center Point offers an unhurried, pastoral setting with plenty of open space, giving residents quiet country living just minutes away from shopping and services in Nashville.
