Centerville CDP (Shasta County), CA

Centerville is a Shasta County CDP in the foothills west of Redding, where oak woodland, chaparral, and timberland meet the residential roads of the Centerville area. The community was first known as Larkin after John Larkin's store and saloon; its post office operated from 1899 to 1912. Today the place is held together through the Centerville Community Services District, which was organized in 1959 to provide water, irrigation, sanitation, recreation, and fire protection. Neighbors also share the practical work of watching the hills during fire season.

Centerville's road map is close to Igo, Ono, Keswick, and French Gulch, with Whiskeytown Lake and the Coast Range forming the broader setting. The 2018 Carr Fire forced an evacuation and destroyed homes, adding wildfire memory to the community's local history. Volunteer fire service, water district meetings, wooded hills, and scattered homes give Centerville a foothill character. It is a community whose civic backbone sits in the service district while the surrounding landscape remains very much part of daily life.
