About Centerville

Centerville is a Turner County city on a tree-lined hill above the Vermillion River valley, positioned between Parker and Vermillion and within the Sioux Falls metro. It was platted in 1883, and the 2020 census counted 918 residents. The city’s name comes from that central location, but the local map is more than a midpoint: farm roads, the river valley, and the school-and-business center give it a life of its own.

Three city parks, a swimming pool, camping, disc golf, and a connected bike trail system fill out the outdoor side. Centerville also has a K–12 school with an attached library, a museum and art gallery, a senior center, local businesses, churches, and a calendar of plays, running events, the Fourth of July, and Fall-O-Ween. City council meets monthly, and city hall handles bills, permits, ordinances, and meeting records. Centerville’s appeal is in the mix: a small city with a busy calendar, a river valley below, and enough civic pieces to keep the week moving.
