Centreville, MS

Tucked into southwest Mississippi, Centreville sits right on the border of Amite and Wilkinson counties. The town got its name back in the 1820s because it served as a convenient midway stop between Natchez and Baton Rouge, as well as nearby Liberty and Woodville. When the railroad arrived in the late 1800s, the town shifted half a mile to meet the tracks, leaving behind a classic rail-town layout where Main Street is still divided into East and West.

Today, the former train corridor has found new life as Louis Gaulden and Riquita B. Jackson Park, offering a central green space where the tracks once ran. Surrounding back roads feature historic landmarks like the 1855 Bethany Presbyterian Church alongside quiet farmland and pine timber. Because the town spans two counties, local school options are split between the Amite and Wilkinson districts, but residents share a relaxed, slow-paced lifestyle rooted in rural Southern tradition.
