About Charles Town

Charles Town is a city and the county seat of Jefferson County, West Virginia, situated in the lower Shenandoah Valley. Founded in 1786 by Charles Washington, the youngest brother of George Washington, the community of approximately 7,300 is rich in history, serving as the site of abolitionist John Brown's trial in 1859. Zoned within the Jefferson County Schools district, the city marks the northwestern fringe of the Washington metropolitan area.
