Chelsea, AL

Chelsea is a Shelby County city in the Birmingham metro area, southeast of the urban core and near Double Oak Mountain. It is a young municipality by Alabama standards: incorporated in 1995, briefly dissolved over procedural issues, and then re-established. Chelsea has grown as a family-oriented suburban community, with four Shelby County schools and newer residential development spreading through central Shelby County. It does not have a deep old downtown story; its identity is more recent, shaped by schools, subdivisions, commuting, and hill-country geography.
