Chenega, AK

Tucked along the waters of Prince William Sound, Chenega is a small, quiet Chugach Alutiiq community on Evans Island. After the devastating 1964 earthquake destroyed their ancestral village, residents rebuilt here in the 1980s around a protected harbor on Chenega Bay. Daily life is remote and tied closely to the sea, with residents relying on small planes, boats, and the state ferry for travel. Between the local K-12 school, community clinic, and subsistence fishing traditions, it remains a peaceful, self-reliant Alaskan coastal home.
