Cherokee, AL

Cherokee is a small, quiet town in northwest Alabama, sitting right near the Mississippi border and the Tennessee River. As part of the greater Shoals region, it has fewer than a thousand residents, giving newcomers a relaxed, rural atmosphere while keeping Florence and Muscle Shoals within an easy drive. It grew from a 19th-century railroad stop into a peaceful community where people know their neighbors and enjoy plenty of open space.

Outdoor recreation is a big draw here, especially along the water. Locals can spend weekends paddling the eight-mile Cherokee Kayak Trail down Bear Creek or exploring the scenic Riverton Rose Trail. The town has its own elementary and high schools for families, and the nearby Barton Riverfront Industrial Park provides steady manufacturing jobs just down the road. Between the quiet countryside, quick river access, and local landmarks like the famous Coon Dog Cemetery, Cherokee is a down-to-earth spot to settle down.
