About Cheshire

Cheshire is a quiet riverfront village in Gallia County, sitting along Route 7 on the banks of the Ohio River. The community has an unusual backstory; in the early 2000s, the nearby Gavin Power Plant bought out most of the town's properties following long-standing environmental concerns. That buyout transformed Cheshire almost overnight, leaving behind a much smaller, spread-out settlement where river barges and heavy industry sit right alongside the remaining residential pockets.

Today, with a population hovering around 120 residents, life in Cheshire is very low-key. Students attend the Gallia County Local School District, but with virtually no commercial district left in town, residents head down the road to Gallipolis or Pomeroy for groceries, dining, and daily errands.
