About Chesterton

Chesterton is a Porter County town in northwest Indiana, close to Lake Michigan, Burns Harbor, and Indiana Dunes National Park. It began as Coffee Creek in the 1830s, and its railroad-era location helped shape the town that followed. Today Chesterton has a mix of small-town downtown blocks, schools, parks, and regional commuter access into the Chicago orbit. The annual Wizard of Oz Festival, started in 1982, is one of its more unusual claims to fame, while the nearby dunes remain the area's strongest natural draw.
