Chewelah is a city in Stevens County, Washington, situated northwest of Spokane in the Colville River valley. Originally home to a band of the Kalispel tribe whose word for watersnake gives the town its name, the agricultural and mining hub of approximately 2,606 is served by the Chewelah School District locally.
