About Chignik

Chignik is a city in Lake and Peninsula Borough, Alaska, situated on the Alaska Peninsula approximately 250 miles southwest of Kodiak, with a population of 97 at the 2020 census. The community has long been a commercial fishing center, and in April 1911 a powerful gale blew ashore several sailing vessels including the Star of Alaska and the three-masted Jabez Howes. The city covers a total area of sixteen square miles.
