Chincoteague, VA

Chincoteague is a relaxed island town tucked along Virginia's Eastern Shore, home to around 3,300 year-round residents. Life here moves to the rhythm of the water, with quiet neighborhood streets, working marinas, and family-run seafood joints serving fresh oysters and blue crabs. Summer brings a lively wave of visitors to the coast, but the rest of the year settles into a peaceful, tight-knit routine where neighbors regularly run into each other at the post office and local shops.

Outdoor recreation defines the area, with the wild ponies and untouched beaches of the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge sitting just across the bridge on Assateague Island. Traditions like the July Pony Swim anchor the community calendar, while everyday life includes local public schools, historic island sites, and endless waterways for boating. NASA's Wallops Flight Facility is also right across the bay, providing regional aerospace jobs and the occasional rocket launch visible from the shoreline.
