About Chupadero

Chupadero is a census-designated place in Santa Fe County north of Santa Fe. The 2020 census counted 349 residents. The community follows Camino Chupadero toward New Mexico 592, a local road whose 2026 improvement plan describes 1.1 miles of winding pavement, seven intersections, 33 residential driveways, limited shoulders, and drainage constraints. The same project includes a new water line, a storage tank, and roadway reconstruction. Here, the road and water system are part of the day-to-day shape of the place, not background infrastructure.

Children from Chupadero, Rio en Medio, Tesuque, and Tesuque Pueblo have been served by Tesuque Elementary since 1930 through Santa Fe Public Schools. The Rio en Medio/Chupadero Community Center at 1 El Alto provides food distribution and connects residents with the county's agricultural and food-access network. An irrigation ditch runs beside part of Camino Chupadero and has to be protected during the planned work. The local map is a high-desert valley of homes, shared facilities, roads, and water infrastructure, with Santa Fe close enough to supply larger institutions while the community center and school serve the immediate area.
