About Cinco Bayou

Cinco Bayou is an Okaloosa County town that is completely surrounded by Fort Walton Beach, so its borders are part of the story before you even get to the name. The town was platted in 1940 and incorporated on July 3, 1950, at a meeting held in the Cinco Bayou garage with about 60 people present. Gordon Gibson became the first mayor. Today the place sits inside the Crestview–Fort Walton Beach–Destin metro area, but it has its own municipal identity tucked into the larger city around it. Cinco Bayou is a small Florida town with a garage-as-town-hall origin and a map that looks like an island of local government.
