Clairton, PA

Clairton is an Allegheny County city on the Monongahela River, 13 miles south of Pittsburgh, with 6,181 residents in the 2020 census. The city was laid out in 1903 as a steel-and-coke town, and Clairton Coke Works still gives the river valley its defining industrial scale. The plant is the largest coke-manufacturing facility in North America, tying Clairton's present-day map to the Mon Valley's steel and river economy. The neighborhood map has a civic side too. The Montour Trail begins near the coke works and runs nearly 47 miles toward Coraopolis. Clairton Park brings a swimming pool, baseball fields, basketball, picnic areas, and pavilions into the city, while the public library, senior center, churches, and recreation programs fill in the everyday routine.
