Clara City, MN

Located at the crossroads of Highways 7 and 23 in Chippewa County, Clara City is a quiet, tight-knit community of around 1,400 residents. Its location makes it an easy jumping-off point for commuting to regional hubs like Willmar, Montevideo, and Granite Falls. Inside town, families have convenient access to local essentials, including the MACCRAY K-12 school campus, neighborhood parks, a community pool, and an ice rink. The town got its start in the late 1880s when founders Martin Prins and Theodore Koch deeded land to the Willmar and Sioux Falls Railway to establish a depot. Koch named the new settlement after his wife, Clara, and the town officially incorporated in 1891. Even as regional highways replaced the railroad as the primary travel corridors, Clara City kept its grounded, agricultural character. Today, it remains a comfortable choice for newcomers looking for a friendly small-town feel within reach of larger neighboring cities.
