Clarion, IA

Clarion is a quiet, friendly town of around 2,800 people that serves as the seat of Wright County. Life here centers around a classic Midwestern courthouse square, where historic brick storefronts and a grand 19th-century courthouse anchor the middle of town. It carries the easygoing pace you would expect from north-central Iowa, with tree-lined residential streets, tidy neighborhoods, and a grounded sense of community.

The town also has plenty of distinct character, starting at the Heartland Museum on Highway 3. The complex features impressive displays of antique tractors, local history exhibits, and thousands of hats once owned by Alvina Sellers, Clarion's famous "Hat Lady" who even took her collection to David Letterman's stage. On warm summer days, families gather at the local aquatic center for its water slides and pool.
