Clarksburg, MD

Clarksburg gives you a mix of historic charm and modern suburban comfort in northern Montgomery County. Historic Frederick Road (Route 355) runs right through the original center of town, while newer neighborhoods, townhomes, and shopping plazas branch out on both sides of Interstate 270. The town's roots stretch all the way back to the 1700s, when it served as a popular stop for travelers heading along the old road between Georgetown and Frederick. Trader William Clark and his family helped establish the early settlement, giving the community its name. You can still spot historical homes, old churches, and classic storefronts along Route 355 today. These preserved touches give Clarksburg a grounded, small-town identity that feels distinct from the busier, denser suburbs closer to Washington, D.C.

Daily life here is convenient and accessible. Residents can grab groceries and coffee at Clarksburg Village Center, or spend an afternoon shopping at the Clarksburg Premium Outlets right off I-270. Neighboring towns like Germantown and Gaithersburg offer even more dining, entertainment, and county services just a short drive down the road. For commuters, I-270 puts regional employment hubs within easy reach, while Ride On express buses connect riders straight to the Shady Grove Metro station for a straightforward trip on the Red Line into the city.

Access to nature is easily one of the best parts about living in Clarksburg. Little Bennett Regional Park spans 3,700 acres of peaceful forest along the edge of town, featuring over 30 miles of hiking trails, picnic spots, and a popular campground. Right next to the newer subdivisions, Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park offers lighted sports fields, walking trails, a skate park, modern playgrounds, and a historic 1915 carousel. Between the vast green spaces and quiet neighborhood sidewalks, finding a great spot to spend time outdoors is always effortless.
