Clarktown, OH

Clarktown is a Scioto County census-designated place in southeastern Jefferson Township, where State Route 139 meets Burns Hollow and Blue Run roads. The 2020 census counted 911 residents. Lucasville is about five miles northwest and Portsmouth about ten miles southwest, so the community’s longer trips run toward both the county seat and the smaller township roads. Long Run, a tributary of the Rocky Fork of the Little Scioto River, passes the community. The local map mixes wooded hills, creek bottoms, scattered homes, and highway traffic.

Clarktown has the feel of a rural road junction, with no separate municipal center. Route 139 carries the longer north-south trips, while Burns Hollow and Blue Run roads feed homes and farms into the valley. The Rocky Fork drainage gives the place its geographic reference, and Portsmouth supplies the county offices and larger regional connections. Clarktown sits close enough to the main routes to stay linked, but its everyday landscape is still the wooded, stream-cut country of southeastern Scioto County.
