About Claude
Claude is the Armstrong County seat in the Texas Panhandle, a town where county business and ranch-country history meet in the same few blocks. It began as Armstrong City before taking the Claude name, and the surrounding story reaches from Francisco Coronado’s route through nearby Tule Canyon to Charles Goodnight’s ranching years. The Armstrong County Museum gathers that past with the historic Gem Theatre, an art gallery, and Goodnight’s house. Claude also has an unusual bit of civic architecture: the 1953 county jail was built with stone from the old jail. Claude ISD’s Mustangs, the city park, rodeo arena, and public library keep the place grounded in everyday town life.
