About Cliffside Park

Cliffside Park sits atop the Hudson Palisades in Bergen County, where Palisade Avenue looks toward the Hudson River and New York City skyline. The borough was created from Ridgefield Township after an 1895 referendum, during Bergen County’s rapid wave of borough formation, and its name refers to its setting by the cliffs. Palisades Amusement Park occupied 38 acres in Cliffside Park and neighboring Fort Lee from 1898 to 1971; high-rise apartments later replaced the rides and attractions. Anderson and Palisade avenues remain the principal north–south routes. The Grantwood section takes its name from Grant’s Tomb across the river.
