About Clintwood

Clintwood is the Dickenson County seat, set in the Holly Creek valley of southwestern Virginia. The town was laid out to replace Ervinton as the county seat and took its name from Major Henry Clinton Wood, a state senator who backed the change. Today the Cranesnest River and nearby recreation area add a water-and-woods edge to the courthouse town, while the Ralph Stanley Museum keeps the region’s mountain-music story close at hand. Clintwood is Appalachian Virginia with county business, creek valleys, and old-time music sharing one main street.
