About Cloverport

Cloverport is a Breckinridge County home-rule city on the Ohio River, where the 2020 census counted 1,119 residents. The city grew around the place where Clover Creek meets the river, with early settlement beginning around 1798. A ferry at the landing carried Abraham Lincoln's family across the Ohio in 1816 as they traveled toward their new Indiana farm, giving Cloverport a memorable place in the region's river history.

Cloverport Independent Schools keeps education in town, while the riverfront and historic Clover Creek Bridge give the city a visible connection to its past. The Ohio River shaped transport, trade, and the city's original street pattern, and the creek still gives Cloverport its name and local orientation. Downtown improvements and the city's Kentucky Main Street history sit alongside the older ferry story. Cloverport is a small river city with a school, a bridge, a creek mouth, and a ferry crossing that once carried a future president's family west. The river remains close today.
