Sitting atop Tennessee’s Cumberland Plateau, Coalmont offers quiet, rural living with plenty of open space. The town got its start in the early 1900s as a coal mining hub built around the historic Mountain Goat Railroad. While the trains and active mines are long gone, Coalmont has settled into a peaceful rhythm surrounded by the plateau's dense forests and scenic back roads.

Today, the town serves as a convenient everyday hub for central Grundy County. It is home to both Coalmont Elementary and Grundy County High School, as well as a local library, park, and community center. Positioned right along State Route 56 between Tracy City and Altamont, Coalmont makes it easy to reach neighboring plateau communities while keeping a relaxed, small-town atmosphere.
