Codell, KS

Codell is a tiny rural community in north-central Kansas with fewer than fifty residents. Located in Rooks County, the town got its start in the late 1880s when the Union Pacific Railroad built a local depot. It holds a famous spot in weather folklore for being struck by tornadoes on the exact same calendar date, May 20, three years in a row from 1916 to 1918. Today, a memorial sculpture marks that bizarre chapter of history, and the quiet crossroads offers wide-open skies and peaceful country living.
