About Colebrook

Colebrook is a Coos County town in New Hampshire's Great North Woods, with the Connecticut River along its western side and Beaver Brook Falls close to the village. Its older map follows water and work: the River Road became today's Main Street and Route 3, while the Mohawk River led east to Factory Village, where mills once turned wool, timber, and waterpower into a local industrial district. Colebrook also made a name in potato starch; in 1870, twelve valley mills were producing one-twentieth of the nation's supply. Today the town is a North Country service center, and the river walk, historic buildings, and mountain roads keep those earlier layers visible. Colebrook is a place where a town road still follows an old river route.
