Coleman, TX

Coleman is Coleman County's seat, founded in 1876 after R. J. Clow donated a 160-acre site on Hords Creek for the courthouse town. Its position on the Western Trail gave the new settlement a second job: supplying and entertaining trail drivers headed toward Dodge City. U.S. 84 and 283 still meet at the edge of town, while the courthouse square and old commercial blocks keep the county-seat role visible. The Coleman Public Library, organized in 1885 and once housed in the courthouse and a drugstore, adds another long-running civic thread. Coleman is a West Texas town whose map still joins creek, trail, courthouse, highway, and library.
