About College City

College City is a Colusa County place whose name is a historical clue, not a current campus directory. The settlement grew around a school funded from property Andrew Pierce left behind, and Pierce Christian College began classes in 1874. A college building followed in 1876, but the institution closed in 1897 and was replaced by a high school. That old school story shows why the name stayed after the campus disappeared. College City is served by the Pierce Joint Unified School District and sits at 72 feet above sea level. In other words, the name is a souvenir from an education project that once made this small place a college town.
