Collierville's historic Town Square is the true heart of the community. The town got its start in 1836 when entrepreneur Jesse Collier purchased the original acreage. By the 1850s, the arrival of the railroad turned the settlement into a bustling trade hub. Though the town suffered heavy damage during the Civil War, local leaders quickly rebuilt around a new street plan just north of the tracks. That late-nineteenth-century layout created the historic district you see today, preserving original brick storefronts and rail history that give the area its distinct character.
