Coloma, MI

Coloma is a Berrien County city in Michigan's Fruit Belt, a compact place surrounded by orchards and farm country. Its municipal story is newer than the landscape: it was incorporated as a village in 1893 and became a city in 1941. Lake Michigan tempers the growing conditions, and the area is known for peaches, grapes, apples, and the vineyards of the Lake Michigan Shore AVA. Coloma's name also has a Gold Rush echo, chosen after earlier names Shingle Diggins and Dickerville fell out of favor.

Every August, the Glad-Peach Festival turns that farm identity into a local ritual, pairing gladiolus flowers and peaches with a parade, music, car show, carnival, breakfasts, and fireworks. Randall Park is another everyday landmark, with hand-built play structures and neighborhood gatherings. Nearby Paw Paw Lake adds the old resort side of the region, while the surrounding roads lead into the orchards and vineyards. Coloma is a small city with a clear local formula: farms and fruit around the edges, a festival in the middle, and Lake Michigan's climate working in the background.
