Colona, IL

Colona is a quiet, down-to-earth community of about 5,000 residents located just east of the Illinois Quad Cities. Sitting right where the Green River, Rock River, and historic Hennepin Canal come together, the town offers plenty of open space and scenic water access. It officially formed when Green Rock and the original village of Colona merged in the late 1990s, creating a spread-out area with an unhurried, small-town atmosphere. Getting around is easy, with quick connections to Interstate 80 and Route 84, while the Hennepin Canal Parkway gives locals miles of paved trails for walking and biking.

Everyday life centers on neighborhood parks, local ball games, and easy access to boat launches along the rivers. Younger students typically attend Colona Grade School before moving on to United Township High School in East Moline, though some outer neighborhoods fall into the Geneseo or Orion school districts. While Colona covers the essentials with local diners, convenience spots, and community events, major shopping, healthcare, and employers in Moline and Davenport are only a short drive away.
