About Colorado City

Colorado City is a Pueblo County CDP of 2,237 residents in the 2020 census, spread across the Greenhorn Valley about thirty miles southwest of Pueblo. The place sits around 6,000 feet, with Greenhorn Mountain rising west of town and Greenhorn Creek threading the valley. Its oldest local story starts in 1845, when John Brown, Luisa Sandoval, and their family established a trading post where the Trapper’s Trail to Taos crossed the creek. The Colorado City Metropolitan District is the practical center of the community, handling water and sewer service and maintaining Lake Beckwith, Greenhorn Meadows Park and Campground, and the community pool.

Lake Beckwith brings fishing access close to the settlement, while Greenhorn Meadows gives the valley a campground and park space. Craver Middle School is in town; other students attend schools in nearby Rye. With Pueblo to the east and the Wet Mountains to the west, Colorado City reads as a valley service community whose daily map is split between district facilities, school routes, and the reservoir at its center.
