About Comanche Creek

Comanche Creek is an Arapahoe County census-designated place on the rural eastern edge of the Denver metro, using Strasburg for its postal address and nearby services. There is no single town center doing all the work here. The place is a spread of homes, roads, open ground, and drainage country east of the Front Range, with the creek and its smaller companion, Little Comanche Creek, giving the area its name and its practical shape.

The two creeks run north-south through the county and pass through Strasburg before joining a watershed that reaches into Elbert and Adams counties. Arapahoe County's drainage plan describes the watershed as mostly undeveloped and focuses on floodplains, road crossings, wetlands, and keeping water moving safely during big storms. That is a very eastern Colorado kind of identity: dry streambeds for much of the year, sudden water when weather turns, and county roads tying scattered households to Strasburg. Comanche Creek is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metro on paper, but on the ground it is a creek corridor and rural neighborhood with the Plains stretching out around it.
