Concord, VA

Concord is a census-designated place straddling Campbell and Appomattox counties, with 1,557 residents in the 2020 census. The name appears on maps as a community, a former railroad stop, and a place where county lines matter more than a town boundary. Campbell County calls Concord its third-earliest settlement; early colonies gathered around the area in the 1700s, and the Southside Railroad later gave the community a direct connection to the wider Piedmont. U.S. 460 and Virginia 24 now do the road work the railroad once did.

Concord's local landmarks are modest but telling. Concord Elementary serves the Campbell County side, while Concord Calvary Baptist Church and older farm roads keep the settlement's rural pattern visible. Nearby Dixon Cemetery, established in the 1750s and recently listed on the Virginia and National Registers, adds a deeper layer to the surrounding landscape, with graves of enslaved, freed, White, Revolutionary, and Civil War-era residents.
