Confluence, PA

Confluence is a borough in Somerset County, at the point where the Casselman River and Laurel Hill Creek join the Youghiogheny River. The 2020 census counted 724 residents. Lower Turkeyfoot Township wraps around the borough, with Ursina to the east and the river valleys shaping every approach. Pennsylvania Route 281 and the water crossings keep Confluence connected to the Laurel Highlands, while Ohiopyle State Park and the Middle Youghiogheny bring hiking, fishing, and whitewater country close to town. The borough’s streets meet those rivers at close range.

People settled Confluence in 1870, and the borough incorporated in 1873. Its name is as direct as its map: three streams meet here, creating a natural gathering point for roads, rail history, and outdoor travel. Laurel Hill Creek and the Casselman remain part of the local working landscape, while the Youghiogheny carries the town toward Ohiopyle and the larger Monongahela watershed. Confluence is a small Somerset County borough with a big piece of water geography at its center.
