Coon Valley, WI

Coon Valley is a Vernon County village in western Wisconsin, built along Coon Creek. The 2020 census counted 758 residents. The creek is part of the daily map: it forms the northern edge of Veterans Memorial Park, crosses the park’s one-mile paved path twice, and supports fishing along the valley. The village’s local address is Main Street and Central Avenue, where the municipal offices and Knutson Memorial Library keep civic routines close to the water.

Ten-acre Veterans Memorial Park includes fishing pads, ball fields, a swimming hole, shelter, restrooms, and a memorial, giving the village one of its main gathering grounds. Knutson Memorial Library operates at 500 Central Avenue, and the Coon Valley Historical Society’s Heritage Day brings a parade, Legion breakfast, car and tractor shows, music, and fireworks into the calendar. The village has also had to deal with flood damage, including the 2018 Wisconsin floods. Coon Valley’s local life is creek-centered: a small valley village whose park, library, and seasonal events all fit the same narrow piece of land.
