About Cooper
Cooper is Delta County's seat, tucked between the north and south forks of the Sulphur River. The town grew with cotton, corn, sorghum, and other crops, then acquired a much bigger piece of water when Cooper Lake was completed in 1991. Doctors Creek Unit of Cooper State Park sits along the lake's north shore, giving the county seat a front porch of fishing, paddling, camping, and trails. Cooper also has an education footnote: East Texas Normal College opened here in 1889 before fire and relocation carried the school to Commerce. It is a small northeast Texas courthouse town with old cotton country behind it and a reservoir changing the view.
