Copeland, KS

Copeland is a small Gray County city on the western Kansas plains, founded in 1912 along the Santa Fe Railroad. The town was named for E. L. Copeland, a railroad official, and its first post office opened in October of that year. Copeland's footprint is only a few blocks, but the railroad gave the settlement a reason to exist and a line into the larger shipping network around Garden City and Dodge City. The landscape beyond town is a mix of dry fields, pasture, and roads running toward other small communities in Gray County.
