Cottage Lake, WA

Cottage Lake offers a quiet, wooded setting tucked just east of Woodinville. The community began as a popular summer getaway in the mid-1900s, when visitors flocked to Norm's Resort along the north shore for swimming and lakeside picnics. Over the decades, the resort grounds became a public county park, and the surrounding forest grew into a peaceful residential area. Today, the neighborhood consists of single-family homes on generous, tree-lined lots. Because the area is unincorporated King County, residents enjoy a spacious, semi-rural feel while remaining within easy reach of neighboring suburbs.

Daily errands are straightforward thanks to the commercial hub at the intersection of Avondale Road and Woodinville-Duvall Road. This central crossroads offers grocery stores, casual restaurants, coffee shops, and local banking, saving residents a trip into the larger cities for everyday necessities. Commuters also benefit from convenient access to regional roads and King County Metro bus routes. Regular transit service connects the area directly to major Eastside employment hubs in Redmond and Bellevue, as well as nearby destinations like UW Bothell.

The 63-acre lake provides a scenic backdrop and plenty of low-key recreation. Gas-powered motorboats are prohibited, keeping the water tranquil for paddleboarding, kayaking, and canoeing. Anglers regularly visit the public boat launch to fish for stocked rainbow trout, native cutthroat, and largemouth bass. King County closely tracks lake conditions year-round, which gives residents an easy way to check online water quality updates before heading out for a swim or paddle during warm summer months.

Cottage Lake Park sits along the northern waterfront and serves as the main community gathering spot. The 22-acre park features open grassy lawns, a fishing pier, shaded walking trails, and family-friendly facilities operated by the Northshore YMCA, including an outdoor pool and summer camps. On warm July evenings, locals gather on the grass for the annual summer concert series. Outdoor enthusiasts can also head just north to the Paradise Valley Conservation Area, which offers roughly 800 acres of preserved evergreen forest and miles of multiuse trails for hiking, running, and mountain biking.
