About Cotter
Cotter was laid out as Cotterville in 1878 along the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad, about five miles west of Columbus Junction and near the Louisa–Washington county line. The Louisa County city now sits among county roads and short creek corridors, with the railroad corridor that gave Cotter its start still visible in Iowa’s transportation history. Louisa-Muscatine Community School District includes Cotter and serves the surrounding rural area. The town’s compact streets remain connected through county routes, district lines, and nearby Columbus Junction.
