Country Walk, FL

Country Walk began as a 1,280-acre Arvida development in 1978, planned with a landscaped greenway system on the suburban edge of southwest Miami-Dade. Homebuilding continued through 1994. The census-designated place lies about 19 miles southwest of downtown Miami, with Miami Executive Airport to the north and Richmond West to the south; its population was 16,951 in 2020. Hurricane Andrew became the decisive break in that planned-community history. NOAA describes Country Walk as one of the areas where Andrew's violent winds caused extreme destruction in August 1992, while a Miami-Dade historic-preservation study reports that 90 percent of its homes were destroyed. The storm was later reclassified as Category 5, and the construction failures revealed across South Florida helped drive much stronger building standards, including shutter or impact-glass requirements.

Present-day routines use both association facilities and county services. The Country Walk Master Association's central clubhouse has a swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, and a playground; an adjoining lake has a vita course, dock, fountain, and fishing access. Metrobus Route 152 starts in Country Walk and follows Southwest 152nd Street to the TransitWay park-and-ride, with weekend service to Zoo Miami. Route 137 runs along 137th Avenue between FIU and Cutler Bay, linking the area with Kendall, Richmond West, Southland Mall, and the South Dade Government Center. At 15433 Southwest 137th Avenue, the Country Walk Branch Library adds a public indoor gathering point with drive-up Wi-Fi, mobile printing, early-literacy story times, and adult activities such as collaborative crochet projects.
